PTA Finance can be FUN

If you’ve ever seen a PTA budget report, there’s a good chance you acted like you understood it but were lost about five lines in… or you straight up fell asleep. Because truth be told, a PTA’s budget breakdown isn’t the shiny fun part of what we do. It doesn’t tug at your heartstrings like seeing the children have the time of their lives at the Carnival your team put together or that feeling when you made a teacher smile with a special treat. The finance side of PTA can be confusing, it’s constantly moving and it’s a whole lot of number crunching.

FUNDRAISING HELPS BUILD A SENSE OF COMMUNITY

Situated on W. 7th Street is a rare gem on the west side, our North Hi Mount Elementary School. Its heritage and presence have long been part of this beloved area and in time has become surrounded by a bustling community of businesses, restaurants, and beautiful homes. In my opinion, our little school is the heart of this community where we live, work, and play…

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Each year beginning September 15th, we celebrate the cultural contributions and histories of ancestors from all Latin countries including people from right here in the United States. A bit of history on the birth of Hispanic Heritage Month: It began as just one week in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson. Later, in 1988 President Reagan enacted into law to cover a 30-day period, starting on September 15 and ending October 15. Getting into the SPIRIT of Spirit Wear

If you were to ask me as a newbie Pre-K Mom almost 6 years ago what I thought about Spirit Wear, you wouldn’t have gotten much of a reaction beyond “Is that the shirts and bows and stuff?” But over my time at North Hi Mount in some very different volunteer positions with the PTA, my amateur knowledge yet extreme love of design began pulling me further in that direction… showing me how rewarding and how fun it can be to get into the SPIRIT with our students, our teachers and our families.

And We Say THANK YOU: Gifting a Lounge Reno to Our Fearless Faculty & Staff

“Our school is a beautiful historic building, full of charm, full of history, full of kids and adults doing life and doing school each day. But it’s the people within the school walls that are the true treasure. Teachers and staff show up at the break of dawn to be ready to welcome our kids… They give of themselves, give their time and talents, they give a sense of community and camaraderie that’s evident…How can we possibly say “Thank you,” how can we possibly put into words what the actions of so many have meant? “Thank you” just doesn’t quite come close. But the sentiment is real, the gratitude is there…”

OUR COMMUNITY IS STRONGER BECAUSE OF YOU, AND WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU

I have early memories of sponsored jump rope-a-thons, cake walks, and selling chocolate bars door-to-door to my neighbors… Enter Covid-19. There is not a single industry or corner of our community that has not been touched by the effects of the pandemic. Asking for money, even for our kids, has never been harder. AR events, campus improvements, events throughout the year all depend on successful fundraising… So how do we ensure our kids have what they need to learn dynamically when asking for donations feels almost taboo? We innovate. We expand. We create new opportunities. We ensure that we are adding value to your sponsors’ businesses.

ANTI-RACIST PARENTING WORKSHOP: "WHERE DO WE BEGIN?"

“Dr. Cheruvu discusses what it means to be an anti-racist parent in 2020, and what this looks like with young children, by exploring two questions: What is anti-racist parenting? Where do we begin? She offers book suggestions, shows easy-to-understand illustrations, and asks those hard questions that are so important for parents to ask ourselves in order to help our children learn…”
