FUNDRAISING HELPS BUILD A SENSE OF COMMUNITY

By Jessica Kaszynski, 2022 NHM Auction Committee Member

Situated on W. 7th Street is a rare gem on the west side, our North Hi Mount Elementary School. Its heritage and presence have long been part of this beloved area and in time has become surrounded by a bustling community of businesses, restaurants, and beautiful homes. In my opinion, our little school is the heart of this community where we live, work, and play.

In the last few weeks, you probably have seen and heard that our spring auction fundraiser is coming up. As with all fundraisers, the long and short of it is, yes, we are asking for money and donations to support our school and benefit our kids. But there’s also an underlying reason and importance to fundraising – it helps to build comradery and a healthier, thriving community.

Fundraising provides each one of us an opportunity to join in, whether through volunteering or donating, to not only support our school’s greatest needs, not covered through the FWISD budget, but also meet other parents, faculty, and staff to build a larger sense of community and pride.

Personally, I have lived in Fort Worth for close to 17 years and have had houses in various parts of our city. Three years ago, my daughter and I moved into North Hi Mount, and it didn’t take long for me to realize that this was home and where we belong. I have loved getting to know other parents, watching my child make friendships, and really feeling part of this community.

A thriving school equals a thriving community. Businesses want to be in our area; people want to live here. Through our fundraising efforts, we can ensure that North Hi Mount remains a flourishing school for our kids and those to come.

There are so many opportunities to help, and it is not just all about the dollars and cents. But every dollar does help, and no gift of support is too small. Volunteering in person or behind the scenes online, donating items to the auction, sponsoring the auction through your business, collecting donation items and sponsorships in our community, purchasing spirit wear, making a monetary donation and sending the link to friends, family, and neighbors, donating items to the grade level raffle baskets, purchasing raffle basket tickets, buying tickets to attend the in-person live auction event, bidding in the silent auction, and bidding in the live auction are all ways to help fundraise for our amazing North Hi Mount community and elementary school.
