HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Post By Caresse Hoopman

Each year beginning September 15th, we celebrate the cultural contributions and histories of ancestors from all Latin countries including people from right here in the United States. A bit of history on the birth of Hispanic Heritage Month: It began as just one week in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson. Later, in 1988 President Reagan enacted into law to cover a 30-day period, starting on September 15 and ending October 15. There are many ways families celebrate their Hispanic Heritage including these Fort Worth events:

Fort Worth Stockyards
“Mexico en La Sangre” (Mexico in our Blood) is a stockyard celebration with food, music, and even dancing horses! There is a special two-hour equestrian spectacular in the Cowtown Coliseum, Mariachis, Caballos Balidores, and much more. Guests are encouraged to wear traditional costumes. For more information, visit HERE.

Fort Worth Botanical Gardens
Celebramos! An eight-week celebration of Hispanic Heritage kicks off with Arte y Artesania Botanica - Mexico's Abiding Connection to the Natural World. Weekends in October include Artist Night, Mariposa Market, Ballet Folklorico, food trucks, a performance of “Frida Kahlo, the Bravest Girl in the World” by the Fort Worth Opera, family movie night showing “Coco,” Hispanic Artisan Fair planned with over 30 vendors, Day of the Dead costume street party, Tacos in the Garden, and much more. Please visit BRIT.ORG for more details.

Fort Worth Opera
The Fort Worth Opera celebrates its landmark 75th anniversary this year by starting their season with a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration of “Entre Amigos” or “Between Friends,” an all-star, exciting and iconic mix of Hispanic writers & music. After the concert, check out the Gallery of Artes de la Rosa paired with a funky fun DJ, and dance your way over to the handmade desserts by Del Campo Empanadas.
