By Dr. Ranita Cheruvu of UNT

Workshop organized by the NHM Cultural Enrichment Committee

We had a wonderful Zoom workshop on Monday evening December 14, 2020 called “Anti Racist Parenting Workshop: Where Do We Begin?” It was headed by the CEC and Dr. Ranita Cheruvu of UNT. She was kind enough to give the Zoom recording and her PowerPoint images to NHM so those who were not able to attend can view the material.

Dr. Cheruvu discusses what it means to be an anti-racist parent in 2020, and what this looks like with young children, by exploring two questions: What is anti-racist parenting? Where do we begin? She offers book suggestions, shows easy-to-understand illustrations, and asks those hard questions that are so important for parents to ask ourselves in order to help our children learn.

Any questions you may have can be submitted to education@northhimountpta.org. NHM, the PTA, and the CEC are safe places to learn, and as Dr. Cheruvu stated last night, “If you aren’t experiencing discomfort, you’re not growing.” Let’s find that discomfort within ourselves and learn what to do with it!
